Safes in the home are an important investment for securing your valuables. Installing the safe doesn’t have to be a difficult task, and doing it yourself can save both time and money. At R.J. Lock & Security, we’ve created a step-by-step guide to walk you through the process of installing a home safe securely.
But when in doubt, you can always call our team of locksmiths and safe experts to help out!
DIY Safe Installation
- Choose the Right Spot
Location is crucial for security and discretion. Several factors such as size and the contents in the safe will help determine where you want to keep it. Consider low-traffic areas like a closet, and make sure that the floor or wall can support the safe’s weight.
- Prep the Space
Prepping the space means gathering the right tools needed for the job. This could include a power drill, screws, anchors (if mounting to the wall), a level, and a pencil for marking. Then, mark where the safe will be going and check with a level to make the marks even.
- Secure the Safe
Drill pilot holes and secure the safe in place over top with screws or anchors. Tighten it securely for firm installation.
- Test the Safe
Now it’s time to test all aspects of the safe. Check that the door can open smoothly and that the lock does not experience any issues. Then, feel free to add your belongings.
